San Diego trolley signs translated into klingon

July 23, 2010

Right now the San Diego Comic Con 2010 is in full swing. It’s Comic Contastic time where fans are wear storm trooper outfits and the movie studios pimp out their actors to be interviewed by the media onslaught. For one week the Comic Con goes into marketing overdrive which means studios have to be a little more cunning with how they market their brands. The most assured way to get the fans (nerds) buy in is to speak directly to them, this is typically done with some guerilla style angle. This has worked in the past for Tron Legacy and even District 9 and it seems to be being used again.

The San Diego trolley system, which is the best means of transportation to and from the Comic Con, has allowed their signage to be translated into Klingon. Seriously! The Klingon’s as you might remember are the bad boy warriors from Star Trek and this is most likely an early campaign to get the Trekkies excited for the next J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie in late 2011. I don’t know why, but I’m sure some guy riding on a trolley is annoyed that they didn’t phrase “convention center next stop” correctly.
